Buhari Jets Off To London For Medical Check-up, Says Osinbajo Is In Charge.
President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is in command of the country.
On Sunday, he announced this while he was leaving Abuja for a medical checkup in London.
It could not be established at the time of reporting this article whether Buhari had sent a letter to the National Assembly handing over authority to Osinbajo till his return to the nation.
When asked if his absence won’t affect state functions, he said, “Well, I cannot claim to be doing the work alone. The government is fully represented. The Vice President is there.
“Constitutionally, when I’m away, he’s in charge. Then, we have the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and then the Chief of Staff, so, there’s no problem.”
According to the presidency, Buhari is expected to be in London for two weeks.
“President Buhari departs for medical check up in UK March 6th, 2022,” a presidential aide, Femi Adesina, said while announcing the president’s departure.
He also shared pictures of the President’s departure on his Facebook page.
The Presidency said on Friday in Abuja that the President’s return to Abuja from Nairobi did not exclude him from traveling to the United Kingdom for a normal medical examination.
As previously stated, the President’s prior scheduled travel to London for a regular medical examination remains in effect.
The plane carrying President Muhammadu Buhari landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 1 p.m. on its way to London from Nairobi.
